Education

Every child deserves the opportunity to learn, grow and choose their own future.

India has come a long way in making education more accessible. Through initiatives such as the Right to Education Act, Samagra Shiksha and the National Education Policy 2020, efforts have been made to improve access, learning, retention and opportunities for children across the country.

But getting a child into school is only the first step.

THE NUMBERS

India had 24.8 crore students enrolled in schools in 2023–24. Yet, the Gross Enrolment Ratio falls from 91.7% at the elementary level to 77.4% at the secondary level and 56.2% at the higher-secondary level. The national dropout rate at the secondary stage was 10.9%.

THE CHALLENGE

These numbers tell us something important: many children still need support to stay connected with education and make the most of it.

A child may be going to school but struggling to understand what is being taught. Another may have a talent that never gets an opportunity to grow. And for many older students, the question is not just “Will I continue studying?” but also “What should I do next?”

The Government of India continues to address these challenges through programmes and policies focused on foundational learning, reducing dropouts, improving learning outcomes and creating different pathways for students.

But policies can only take us so far.

The last mile needs people, communities and consistent support.

SHIKSHA · HUNAR · DISHA

At Nand Care Foundation, we want to be part of that support. Our work in education is not limited to providing books or study materials. We want to support children through different stages of their journey—from building a strong academic foundation, to discovering their abilities, to making informed choices about their future. That is why our education work is built around three simple ideas: Shiksha, Hunar and Disha. Build the foundation. Discover the potential. Find the direction.

  1. PROJECT SHIKSHA

Building the foundation to stay, learn and move ahead.

A child can attend school regularly and still struggle with learning.

Sometimes they need a little more time to understand a concept. Sometimes they need extra practice or someone to explain things differently. And sometimes, what they need most is a safe place where they can ask questions without feeling embarrassed.

This is why NCF runs 8 coaching centres. These centres provide children with additional academic support alongside their regular schooling. We want to make sure that children who need extra help have a place where they can learn, ask questions, practise and gradually build confidence.

Through Project Shiksha, we focus on:

    • Strengthening basic concepts and foundational learning
    • Helping children with subjects they find difficult
    • Providing additional practice and academic support
    • Creating a comfortable space where children can ask questions
    • Supporting students in their school and examination journey
    • Encouraging children to stay interested and engaged in learning
    • Building the confidence to improve, rather than fear of falling behind

But Project Shiksha is not just about running coaching classes. It is about making sure that a child does not get left behind simply because they need a little more support.

Our 8 centres are a starting point. We want them to become spaces where children feel supported, encouraged and confident about their education.

Our belief is simple: Every child can learn when they are given the right support and the right opportunity.

  2. PROJECT HUNAR

Every child has a strength beyond the report card.

Marks tell only one part of a child's story.

Some children express themselves through music. Some through art. Some through sport. Some are natural leaders, problem-solvers or good communicators.

Project Hunar is about giving children the chance to discover these strengths.

Through activities, exposure and opportunities to try new things, we want children to explore what they enjoy, recognise what they are good at and become more confident in themselves.

Because a child's potential should not be measured only by marks.

Education should also help a child discover what they can become.

  3. PROJECT DISHA

Helping young people understand where they can go next.

For students in Classes 10 and 12, education reaches an important turning point.

There are streams to choose, courses to understand, careers to explore and decisions that can shape the years ahead. But not every student has someone who can explain these choices or help them understand what is actually possible.

Project Disha aims to bridge that gap.

We want students to have access to:

    • Career and stream guidance
    • Exposure to different career pathways
    • Information about scholarships and entrance examinations
    • Guidance on higher education and vocational opportunities
    • Support in understanding applications and admissions
    • A clearer understanding of the choices available to them
    • An individual “My Next Step” plan

No student should have to limit their future simply because they did not know what options were available to them.

FROM LEARNING TO POSSIBILITY

Education is a journey.

First, a child needs the support to learn. Then, they need opportunities to discover what they can do. And when the time comes, they need the guidance to decide where they want to go.

Through Shiksha, Hunar and Disha, Nand Care Foundation wants to support children at each of these stages.

Shiksha. Hunar. Disha. Learn. Discover. Move Forward.

We want to see a future where children are not only able to go to school, but are supported to learn, encouraged to explore their potential and given the confidence to build a future of their own. Be a part of that journey. Support a child's education, potential and future.
