Hunger & Food Security

A meal should never be a privilege.

India has made progress in reducing hunger, but the reality on the ground is still difficult for millions of people. For many families, having enough food for every meal is not something they can take for granted.

Hunger is often a matter of uncertainty — not knowing whether there will be enough food for the next meal, the next day, or the next few days. For families already living with limited resources, even a small disruption in income can quickly turn into food insecurity.

THE CHALLENGE

Hunger is not always a long-term absence of food. It can also mean a family running out of food before the next income, an elderly person without a regular meal, or a vulnerable household having nowhere to turn when food becomes scarce.

The challenge is to provide timely, regular and accessible food support to those who need it.

OUR RESPONSE

At Nand Care Foundation, we are working to make food support more accessible and responsive through three focused initiatives.

  1. PROJECT AAHAR

    Food support for families

Providing dry ration support to vulnerable families, including tribal communities and coal-mining families, helping them keep essential food at home.

  2. PROJECT ANNAPURNA

    A meal, every day

Providing cooked meals to people who need regular food support, including dependent elderly people and vulnerable members of the communities we serve.

Today, NCF provides cooked meals to around 2,000 people every day.

  3. HUNGER WATCH

Finding hunger before it becomes invisible

Not everyone facing hunger is able to ask for help. Hunger Watch works with trusted community members to identify families and individuals who may be running out of food or going without meals. NCF then verifies the need and connects them with appropriate food support.

NO ONE SHOULD GO HUNGRY

From putting food in a family's home to serving a daily meal and reaching people who might otherwise remain unseen, our aim is simple:

To make sure no one is left hungry.

With your support, we can reach more families, serve more meals and respond to hunger where it is needed most.
